Axie Infinity, the non-fungible token (NFT) project that made play to earn a gaming buzzword and global phenomenon, has made history again with the launch of Axie Infinity: Origins on the App Store on May 17.

"Significantly, iOS players will be able to use their NFT Axies in this release. We believe this is the first time that Apple has agreed to make an externally-purchased NFT usable on the App Store," Axie Infinity developer Sky Mavis said in its announcement.

Mavis Market

Not only that, but also Sky Mavis has announced the Mavis Market, a curated marketplace where users can buy, sell, and showcase NFTs powered by Ronin, Sky Mavis’ proprietary blockchain.

Starting on May 17, select collectibles from third-party game or dApps (decentralized apps) developers who deploy on Ronin will be available on the Mavis Market for purchase. With the Mavis Market, Sky Mavis is building upon the success of Axie Infinity and its marketplace to enable third-party games to add key features that enhance ownership, interoperability, and future cross-game integration.

"Sky Mavis remains committed to our vision of a player-owner digital nation and is excited to work with app stores to open our ecosystem to a new generation of Lunacians," said Sky Mavis CEO Trung Nguyen.

"The launch of both Axie Origins on the App store and our very own Mavis marketplace is an important step towards creating more accessible and dynamic web3 gaming experiences. We have exciting updates on the horizon, including the much-anticipated release of our merch store, and are thrilled to continue to provide our community with more ways to engage with the Axie Infinity brand," he added.

This announcement also comes on the heels of Ronin’s successful upgrade to Delegated Proof of Stake or DPoS, and the unveiling of five game studios building and launching games on Ronin: Directive Games, Tribes Studio, Bali Games,, and Battle Bears.

"We are incredibly excited and have big plans for the Mavis Market launch at Tribes Studio. We have a number of initiatives that will utilize the NFT marketplace to engage with our community and to help bring our Tribesters World to life. Several exciting implementations are underway that we believe will showcase the power of the Mavis Market, including membership NFTs for our proprietary platform, engagement and collectible NFT campaigns, and even a world first on the Ronin network that will be our Tribesters Genesis NFT Pack,” said Tribes Studio CEO Glenn McGuire.

Axie Infinity: Origins will first be available to Apple users in key LATAM and Asia countries, including Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Venezuela, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam.

With over 1.5 million global installs across all platforms, Axie Infinity: Origins is a card-based strategy game where players collect, own, and use an infinite variety of creatures called Axies to battle.

Players can take down evil chimeras in Adventure Mode or challenge other players in the Arena to reach the top of the leaderboard. Sky Mavis launched Axie Infinity: Origins, which enables players to enjoy the game with free non-NFT starter Axies, in order to improve accessibility and remove points of friction for players to be able to join the Axie Infinity universe.
